School building sinks in the Padma

A three-storey school building in Bandarkhola union of Shibchar upazila of Madaripur has been washed away by the river Padma.

Last Wednesday at midnight, the school building of Nuruddin Madbarerkandi village was torn in two in the middle. On Thursday afternoon, Padma completely disappeared in the womb.

The various steps taken by the government touched the lives of the people of this char union of Shibchar. All kinds of infrastructure including electricity, medical, paved roads were developed in this char. The light of education was also spreading. But in the last few years, the erosion of the Padma River has taken away all the people of Bandarkhola. This time Nuruddin Madbarerkandi SESDP Model High School of Bandarkhola Union, known as 'Char's Lighthouse', was lost in the Padma.

This favorite educational institution named ‘Kandi SESDP Model High School of Nuruddin Madbar’ was known to all as the ‘lighthouse’ of Char. Hundreds of people in the area witnessed the building collapse and fall into the river. At this time many people broke down in tears.

 The school was established in 2009. The students from  Momin Uddin Hawlader Kandi, Jabbar Ali Munshi Kandi, Bazlu Moral Kandi, Mia Azam Bepari Kandi, Rahmat Hajir Kandi, Zain Uddin Sheikh Kandi, several villages including Beshtpur Sadar of Bespur and several villages of Besirpur and Faridpur upazila were studying in this school. The number of students in this charming school with modern facilities is about four hundred.

At around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, there was a sudden loud noise in the school building. After receiving the news, many people came to see the school in trawlers. The school caught a crack in the middle and it tilted backwards. Locals broke down in tears when the school collapsed. The locals were moved to see the school disappearing into the riverbed. Padma extinguished the lighthouse of Char in her womb.
